Description

Seems I favor pretty colors in my art. Ok. I remembered an OpenGL screensaver called Plasma, and I decided to try to imitate that effect using a black backround and the GIMP's lighting effects filter with 5 directional lights (Red Yellow Green Blue Violet) and one white spotlight in the middle. I left a little darkness in it to give it a bit of shape, and it reminded me of a phoenix... I don't know why, it just did. Hence the name. It still needed a little something, so I added a blank layer, added a very small supernova (radius about 15, random hue 360, 6 spokes) and duplicated that layer. Then I ran the cartoon filter with its default settings on the newest layer, set transparency mode to Darken Only and about 34% opacity. Then I exported it to JPEG (Maximum quality of course :) quality 100, smoothing 0, Progressive, Baseline JPEG format, 1x1x1 subsampling, encoded with high-precision floating point)

I built the wallpaper at 1152x864, (1024x768 was getting a little low for me. Is it just me or are my icons growing... dodedodododedodo....) but I also scaled it down to 1024x768 and 800x600 using cubic interpolation.

I will put the GIMP project file in my scraps (PlasmaWings.xcf) for anyone who want's to take a look at what I did. Each effect got a seperate layer, so it should be easy to take out effects and kinda see my process. Just for anyone interested. Of course, you will need The GIMP and the GTK+ Runtime environment. This is available for linux, unix, windows, and a few other operating systems and is free. If you don't have it, look around on [link] .
